Go Green For Spring

I spent my day doing research for an article that I’m writing for the website I work for. The article is about eco-friendly lifestyle choices that can actually help you save money. It’s a sort of “how to save some green while being green” piece. I think it’s pretty timely, what with the recession and spring inching ever closer.

One of the best things I came across during my research is from a blog called Welcome to Veganchick’s World. She has a great post with instructions for making your own, environmentally-friendly house cleaners.

One example:

All Purpose Surface Cleaner:

Add 1 tsp. of baking soda to hot water in a spray bottle, than [sic] add a squirt of Dr. Bronner’s castile soap and shake. (This solution will last several months.)

A regular all purpose cleaner is going to run about 3 or 4 dollars a bottle and it fills your home (and lungs!) with chemicals that are terrible for the environment. A box of baking soda is less than a dollar and with only 1 tsp per cleanser mixture, just think of how much you are getting for less money! Castile soap may cost a bit more, but it has so many uses. You’ll certainly feel like you are getting your money’s worth.

Be sure to check  out all of the homemade cleansers that she has posted. The world thanks you!
