Preparing For Fall

I’m ready for autumn. I’m ready for colorful leaves and knit sweaters and mugs full of chai tea and spiced cider.

Get Ready for the Weekend!

Yay! I am so excited for the long weekend. Dan and I are going to a party on Saturday night that I am totally pumped for. I think I’m going to make my mom’s delicious pasta salad to bring along. On Sunday, I’m doing lunch and a movie with a friend. The only bummer stuff I have to do this weekend is slog through a 9 mile run on Saturday morning, and at some point I should really take advantage of the extra time to clean up my house a bit. I have a bathtub that needs to be scrubbed (boo). Other than that, I’m excited to just relax, hang out with some good friends, maybe do a bit of reading and take lots of photos.

What are your plans for Memorial Day Weekend?

How about you…

Make a delicious pitcher of sangria for the bbq you’re attending?

Put together a “Freshman First Aid Kit” for the new high school graduates in your life? Essential items: Advil, shower sandals, a travel coffee mug and some of those Starbucks Via Ready Brew things, condoms (if you aren’t a bashful gift giver), multivitamins (they help reduce hangovers!), some packages of ramen.

Dance around to Nikki and Rich’s Next Best Thing?

Cook up some fresh asparagus? It’s in season and can be found at your local farmers market!

Catch up on my daily photo project? I’m having so much fun with it thus far!

Welcome summer by shopping for a few of the season’s essentials?

Have a safe and wonderful weekend!

Strawberry Spinach Salad

Yesterday morning, Dan and I went to the Baltimore Farmers Market and purchased lots of tasty, fresh food. For dinner, we cooked up a meal that consisted entirely of farmers market purchases.* It was delicious! We ate grilled rainbow trout, fresh baked raisin challah and the strawberry spinach salad pictured above. The salad was made of fresh spinach, the tastiest fresh strawberries I’ve ever had, walnuts and a little bit of balsamic vinaigrette.

*except for the walnuts and salad dressing.

Favorite Fruit

SummerTomato

When it comes down to taste alone, pineapple is far and away my favorite fruit. But when we’re talking about the best fruit to munch on while sitting at your desk, nothing beats grapes.

Delicious Looking Things That I Plan On Trying

Now that Passover is coming to its end, I can finally have bread and grains again. This year, Passover went by pretty easily. I found a bunch of new, grain-free recipes that we made for dinner and I indulged in a lot of yogurt and delicious fruit lunches. But breakfast during Passover is a bit tricky. It was pretty much eggs, or matzo brei. Don’t get me wrong, I freaking love matzo brei, but I’m ready to inject a little variety back into my mornings.

All of these look like tasty, full on bread/grain breakfast options. I can’t wait to start trying them out.

Steel-Cut Oats With Dates, Coconut, Cinnamon and Pecans

Granola with Almonds, Apricots, Cranberries and Pineapple

This one can be made in a crock pot!

Overnight Oatmeal with Apricots and Buttermilk

Peach and Spice Tea Muffins

Bill Granger’s Oat, Pear and Raspberry Loaf

And for something really simple but still totally delicious looking:

Tea Cozies

One of the small touches I’ve included in my massage practice is having hot tea available for clients to take with them after their massage session has concluded. It’s not the kind of thing that will necessarily set me apart from other therapists, but I’m hoping it will be a nice and memorable little addition.

What this means, however, is that I now have the difficult task of finding a teapot cozy that is in my price range and fits the decor of my room. I don’t want the tea to get cold, of course, but I also don’t want  my tea pot sticking out like a sore, horribly mismatched thumb in the middle of my lovely massage room! The search has proven to be as tricky as I expected, but here are a few options that, while maybe not perfect fits, at least keep with the general theme of comfort and relaxation.

How The Other Half Loves

This is apparently where my sister and her boyfriend are going to celebrate Valentine’s Day.

My husband and I will probably just make dinner and eat it while watching TV. I’m not insanely jealous. Just, you know, regular jealous.
